The Ah-Mazing Aaliyah Rodgers

I wanted to brag about my little cousin, Aaliyah Rodgers, who resides in my hometown Milwaukee, WI. She’s all grown up now and is no longer the little girl with the sandy brown hair and most beautiful green eyes you’ve ever seen. I always knew she’d be special in some kind of way. Below you will better understand why I say she’s definitely special, gifted, talented, an absolute beauty and truly all around AH-MAZING!

Ms. Aaliyah Rodgers, now 16 years old, was the first of her household to participate in a pageant (and WIN)! Taking home the Academic Achievement Award, State Finalist Award, and All-American Award.

On top of being the smartest of 103 young ladies in her Junior Teen division of the National American Miss pageant, Aaliyah also took home the 1st place Actress trophy and a cash prize of $250. She gave an ah-mazing performance of acting out an advertisement for Colgate Kids encouraging children to brush their teeth in a way that was appealing to them and so they could relate.  That’s 4 trophies in one pageant folks…4 trophies!!!

Aaliyah has also been invited to participate in a National pageant being held in California this November. She is a positive role model, varsity cheerleader for Rufus King HS in Milwaukee, WI where she continues to be a 4.0 student.  Aaliyah frequently volunteers, is considered a lady of distinction, and on top of all of this, she’s a Culver’s employee.  She has dreams of becoming a pediatrician to help the children of her community and traveling to Milan, Italy to learn more of her Italian heritage.

Need I say more? Aaliyah, keep up the good work. Continue to excel in all that you do. We will continue to support you always. Kudos to you young lady. You will have many young girls looking up to you to aspire to accomplish all the things that you have and more. You’ve made your family proud!

Beyonce Announces She’s Pregnant!

Ok so this might be a few days old, but I was present (not literally..but watching TV) when Bey did her thing at the 2011 VMA’s Sunday night. After she finished her fantastic performance of the new song “Love on Top”, she threw her shiny microphone down, opened her purple sequined suit coat and rubbed her baby-bump. When I saw that, I was over-joyed…truly happy for this beautiful power couple. Jay-z was all smiles in the audience as he watched his beautiful bride announce to the world, by rubbing her tummy, that they are indeed having their first child!

She’s 3 months pregnant and looking as glamorous as ever!  I think I can speak for so many fans that we’ve been waiting for this very moment. Well the wait is over…the time has come…they are expanding the Carter family.

Congratulations Bey and Jay! I can’t wait to see what House of Dereon Maternity fashions she’ll be flaunting her baby-bump in.

What Does Friendship Mean?

Today I felt compelled to write about Friendship and what it means to me. To me “true friendship” means to sincerely care about the well-being of another person. By that I mean, being there for someone in genuine fashion. It could be just listening to one another, giving  and receiving advice, also sharing life stories and experiences with each other. Knowing when that person is down and you do what you can to lift them back up..even if its with just a smile, or a simple “how are you doing today”?  It means not being judgmental or condescending in any way, shape or form.  I know for a fact that I have true friends, albeit a short list, but the ones I do have, I know they have my back when it comes down to it. They don’t take my kindness for weakness. They love me for who I am regardless. They aren’t expecting too much of me and I’m not expecting too much from them. We’re there for each other through thick and thin. One should not put true friendship through a test…it should just “BE FRIENDSHIP!”

I’ve learned in my 43 years of life, that you can’t call everyone you meet a “friend” just because you’ve spent a few lively moments with them or because you’ve shared a few “so-called” special moments with them. One must use the word “friend” lightly because all that seems “friendly” could turn ugly in a matter of minutes. Then you’re left wondering…WTF? Where did I go wrong? What did I do to deserve this? So, instead of getting to the point where you have to question yourself, tread lightly and protect yourself at all times until you know for sure they have a true interest in getting to know who you really are.

With all of that said, think of the special people in your life that you can truly call a friend..give them a call and just say “hey I was thinking of you today”.  You’ll more than likely make their day.

Russell Armstrong Dead – Is Reality TV to Real?

This is just another sad case of trying to be more than you REALLY are for the sake of fame! Mr. Russell Armstrong took his own life Monday, August 15th, 2011 by committing suicide and hanging himself. He was the husband of Taylor Armstrong, known for being on the reality TV show, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. IS REALITY TV REALLY WORTH THE FAME AND FORTUNE?

It’s been reported the Russell went bankrupt trying to create the fantasy, fairytale life for his estranged wife, Taylor. Now, I can’t say if any of this true, however I have done my research from different sources to compile enough information to write this article. It has also been reported by Radaronline.com that the family is considering suing the TV network, Bravo.

Apparently Russell  filed for bankruptcy in 2005 with only $50K in assets and between $1million-$10million in debt. These folks didn’t have anywhere near the amount of money they were  portraying they had on TV!

Taylor, his wife reportedly filed for divorce last month after 5 years of marriage, which I’m sure just added fuel to the fire. There is also talks of a huge $1.5 million lawsuit that former clients of Russell’s' are demanding. I guess all of this just took the poor man overboard. He probably couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel anymore and just decided to end it all and leave the BS behind him, here on earth. It’s a tragedy for all involved, his estranged wife, his children, his family, the TV show and his close friends.

I don’t know..but is the “fake it till you make it” phrase the best way to live your life? In some cases, yes..but this one, not at all!

R.I.P. Russell..I hope you’re in heaven so you can be an angel to your children..God Speed!

TV Show Kate Plus 8 is Canceled

TLC has pulled the plug on the once wildly popular TV show, Kate Plus 8. The final episode will air September 12th. Can you believe this show has actually been on the air since 2007? My, my, my how time flies! By the end of the last episode, this family would have taped 150 shows. TLC is nixing the show because of low ratings…really? The show had definitely run its course. I mean, I’m just saying. 

Apparently Kate isn’t upset by the canceling of the show though. She’s actually hoping for more TV gigs in the near future. Her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin is very happy the show is ending and hoping that his children can now have “normal lives”.

I guess we’ll have to see where Kate will show up next. Nevertheless, I do hope their children will be able to lead somewhat normal and healthy lives.

BASKETBALL WIVES – A HOT ASS MESS!

Okay, let me just start off by saying…trust me, I’m no hater! 

 Shaunie O’Neal you should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELF! Let me also say, that YES, I am guilty of watching this ghetto-ass show! However, it DOES get on my last nerve when I see TAMI straight-up bullying the new comer Meeka. I mean for the life of me I can’t understand what Meeka really did to Tami.  Every time Meeka was “charged-up” (for those that understand street-slang..u know what that saying means) I felt like she never got the chance to say what she wanted to say because TAMI would always cut her off.

BW just wrapped up it’s 3 reunion show this evening and there’s Tami…straight-hood, straight ghetto-rat with it all! UGH..it just pisses me off that, I as a strong, black women, married with children, have to continually sit back and watch these shows sterotype black women, as if we ALL act this way. Well, for you folks that actually believe that crap….DON’T!!  I mean these chicks got money, fame, the glamorous life and act like damn fools. Why sell your soul to Shaunie O’Neal and these TV networks for a buck? Is it really worth it?

Ladies, honestly when you go back and look at previous episodes of this show, do you ever feel ashamed at the way you acted on TV? Some of you have children, daughters at that…I mean how the hell you going to show them how to be respectful young ladies when you– yourselves are on TV cussing each other out, talking about each other like dogs, fighting, pulling hair, throwing drinks!!! I mean WTF? For real? Is this how life really is for you women in Miami? Because if it is, then you need to come over to the “real side” of life where we “real women” get down, work a 9 to 5, take care of home, our husbands and children. Not to mention the fact that  some of us do have wonderful relationships with other women of color. We love them and respect them for who they are and don’t cut them down to make them feel like they don’t belong in a “group”!! PLEEZE…

Shaunie, you disgust me and you should disgust yourself. If you are coming on for a 4th season, I suggest you tone it down, get another damn cast of ladies that ARE actually BASKETBALL WIVES and cut the B.S. Enough is enough! I’m sure I speak for a lot of ladies of color who have seen your show. I’m just putting it out here for the world to see…cause I’M REAL!

PS: I still didn’t get everything I wanted to get off my chest, but I felt I said enough.
